Curriculum Intent - Computing 

The use of digital technology and the rapidly changing online world comes with risk; at Spa Academy Askern, we prioritise our children’s understanding of online safety and place great significance on their importance in their community and how they should keep respectful and safe online. 

We utilise Kapow as a resource for our Computing curriculum. The core of our computing curriculum at Spa Academy is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation; how digital systems work; and how this knowledge enables programmers to create (i.e. coding). 

Our pupils also learn about: hardware; the importance of safe work practice when using electronic devices; and computer networks, including the internet (and how they can provide multiple services, such as the world wide web), and the opportunities they offer for communication and collaboration. 

Finally, our intent to ensure our pupils at Spa Academy are digitally literate is about more than just using computers; the children need to be able to use technology to search for and create content, solve problems and innovate.
