Spa Academy Walking Bus

Following the outbreak of Coronavirus in March and the partial closure of schools in the UK the government have advised that the use of public buses, particularly by pupils, should be kept to an absolute minimum.  As many of you will know, at Spa Academy we previously supervised pupils on the public buses that run between the school and Askern.  This was a much appreciated by many pupils and their families.

Many of you are much in need of support in order for your children to get safely home after school, so, at Spa Academy, we have set up and run a very successful ‘walking bus’.  A walking bus is a supervised group of children being walked from school. It's a fun, healthy, and safe way of getting home from school and is also good for the environment.  All children are given a high-vis vest to wear whilst on the walking bus.

The walking bus route follows the existing bus route (bus number 405) that runs from Doncaster, past the school entrance on Sutton Road, and into Askern, ending on NewmarcheDr/Moss Rd. The walking bus is supervised by at least two members of school staff and is led by Sharon Williams, our Walking Bus Co-ordinator. The Walking Bus sets off every day, straight after school, at 3pm and the route takes approximately 30 minutes to walk, stopping at all of the bus stops along the route.  If you are meeting your child from the walking bus, please be there in plenty of time to meet them.
