You will have read and heard from media widespread concern about pupils falling behind in their learning. Plans are already in place to ensure that our pupils’ gaps in knowledge are addressed and that catch-up programmes and carefully planned.

However, for us as a school, reading is the most important skill our pupils develop. Without reading, pupils are at a significant disadvantage in life. Many of our pupils are accessing reading resources through Seesaw but we would now like to invite pupils and families to our Summer Library.

Our Outdoor Library gives pupils the opportunity to select books to read at home for pleasure, alone or with you, returning them when they have been completed.

 

When?

The Summer Library will be held, where possible and weather-permitting, on a Thursday. If the date has to change for the week, a text will be sent out.

The first Summer Library, we hope, will be on Thursday 25^th June.

• Year 3 & 4 between 12 – 1.30pm
• Year 5 & 6 between  1.30– 3pm

Entry via the Y3/4 playground with social distancing measures in place. Pupils are able to discuss the books with staff (to avoid browsing through books) and sign out 2 to take home. These can then be returned at a later date.

 

How are we making it safe?

• Social distancing measures in place for parents and pupils arriving and browsing.
• Our staff are on hand to discuss the books so that you are not just judging a book by its cover!
• When books are returned, they are quarantined in a ‘drop box’ for a minimum of 3 days – in line with government guidance before being able to be reissued.
