Boiler Update: March 2024

Please read the important message below for information regarding the boiler issues at Spa Academy.

On the 22nd February, following a recent flood, our boiler was unfortunately irreparably damaged.  However, I can reassure you that we have taken immediate action to address this issue and ensure the continued comfort and safety of our pupils and staff.  We have been using oil based and electric heaters to warm the classrooms and in the majority of cases they have remained above the recommended temperatures.

The replacement of the boiler is currently underway but this work does take some time as it requires significant work to the infrastructure. We understand the importance of maintaining a comfortable learning environment for our pupils and I assure you that the temperature in each classroom is being monitored constantly to ensure it remains above the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance of 16 degrees celsius.

The provision of hot water is on a separate system and remains unaffected by the boiler replacement. Therefore, there will be no interruption to the availability of hot water for our pupils and staff.

The well-being of our pupils and staff is our top priority, and we are taking every necessary measure to ensure that the learning environment at Spa Academy remains safe, comfortable, and that ‘Better Never Stops’.

Please continue to prepare your child by ensuring that they come to school in warm clothing, including a coat.  If absolutely necessary, pupils will be permitted to wear coats in the school building.  We will continue to monitor the situation, taking classroom temperatures regularly, to ensure they remain within the recommended guidelines.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
